Pond Meeting Notice
Location: Fellowship Hall at Crown of Life Lutheran Church at Dutton and Adams – 2975 Dutton Road
Time: 7pm to 9pm
Description:
There will an upcoming meeting regarding repairs to the Hawthorn Pond drain, taking place Summer 2026.  Some neighbors living near the pond may remember a notice and request-for-comment made by EGLE in December 2023 when our permit application was made to the State of Michigan.

This year is the year that it gets done!

This meeting is not mandatory, and this will be the only topic covered in this special meeting.  Follow up meetings may be scheduled if necessary.

Meeting location:
We have reserved Fellowship Hall at Crown of Life Lutheran Church at Dutton and Adams – 2975 Dutton Road

Meeting date and time:
Thursday May 7th at 7pm.

Meeting topic:
We will discuss the plans for replacing the drain on the southeast corner of Hawthorn Pond.  The first part of the meeting will be rundown of the scope of work, the contractor, and the schedule.  The second half can be used to answer questions and gather comments and concerns to pass along to the contractor.

What we know:
·       Contractor?  Teltow Contracting
·       Cost? $82,650
·       Has it been scheduled yet?  No
·       When is it tentatively planned for?  July-August 2026
·       Duration (equipment on site)? 2 – 3 weeks
·       Equipment used? Excavator, trucks, backhoe, cement truck, diesel pump, porta-potty
·       Where will gravel, dirt, pipes be staged?  Very near the site
·       How loud is the pump and will it run continuously?  Not loud and yes
·       Working hours? 7am-6pm no weekends or holidays
·       We have told the contractor that all traffic enters via Adams – there maybe road vehicles parked in the neighborhood, but they should not be driven in from there and not left overnight.

Plans:
·       Erosion and silt controls will be put in place
·       Steel piles will be driven into the bed of the pond to form a temporary dam
·       A bypass pump will drain the pond to a safe level, but not entirely (for wildlife)
·       The current concrete cap will be demolished and removed
·       The current drain and associated plumbing will be removed
·       A new drain and plumbing in a similar arrangement will replace the old
·       A new concrete cap will replace the old
·       Temporary dam removed
·       Grading finalized and turfgrass replaced

We hope to see you there!

Thanks,
Eric Rodell
